Sikkim Nursing Council
Introduction
The Sikkim Nursing Council developed after sustained efforts were put in by a group of nursing professionals in the year 1995 and who worked as a committee in close conduct with the Health Minister of Sikkim. In the year 1997, bill got passed and in the year 2001, Sikkim Nursing Council Act, 1997, Act No. 3 of 1999 along with rules, was notified on June 11, 2001.
In August, 2001 the constitution of Sikkim Nursing Council was published and May 17, 2002. The Health Minister of Govt. Sikkim inaugurated the council.
- To provide data base of available practicing nurses in the state of Sikkim.
- To improve standards of health care in the state of Sikkim
- To serve as an agency to develop nursing staffing norms, recruitment policy, pay & remuneration and any other nursing related policies.
- To enable the nurses, ANM/FHW, Midwives, Female Health Assistants to provide care to the patients by safe practices

Sikkim Nursing Council inspires the students to serve as a national model for strengthening the health of an individual, family, and community worldwide by providing quality patient care based on our strong commitment to the motto of the college which is to practice the profession with dedication, devotion and diligence through excellence and innovation in nursing education, research and leadership.
PHILOSOPHY:
The philosophy of Sikkim Nursing Council developed by the faculty in congruent with the philosophy of Indian nursing council believes that every individual is a unique and multidimensional being with inherent worth, dignity and a right to influence his/ her destiny. Human beings are integrated beings consisting of biological, psychosocial, cognitive and spiritual aspects and each individual has the right to participate in making decisions which will affect health.
